The Wednesday What’s New? – Local Natives

It’s terribly wrong and utterly unforgivable to recommend one band by slagging another, yet it’s difficult not to at times. It’s as if one feels the need to suggest a compensatory offering to make up the disappointment of being let down by another act. Hey, we care about you.

In this case, you may be one of the many out there who was left a bit nonplussed by Midlake’s latest album. It’s not that it’s bad, it’s just boring. Indeed, outwith prog rock, it could well be the most humourless album ever made, a dreary lump to grow a beard to. But fear not, because Local Natives have stepped up to the plate with their stonking offering Gorrilla Manor. It’s poignant, it’s witty and it reminds you why you love music in the first place.

Here is latest single ‘Airplanes’. Enjoy.

  1. i liked the new midlake album. And i grew an excellent beard whilst listening.

  2. That’s why I’m an utter cock and you’re the technical genius.

  3. Yes its pish. Boring boring boring. Van Occupanther was awesome, and the one before (Banman And Silvercork) was pretty decent. It worries me that when Mojo and Select get a hold of a new (ish) band they become dull as dishwater exponentially.
Prog rock? That’s what the fucking Clash are for. Get thee behind me beardie longhair cunt!
Oh, and have a wash while you’re at it.
I actually saw Midlake support The Earlies (whatever happened to them? Great band…..) and totally eclipse them. Now? Wouldn’t cross the road to pish on that new album.
Maybe it’s a blip. Hope so.

  4. It has all the hallmarks of a band who’ve passed the point of critical assessment. If Midlake had pissed in a bucket and recorded it, certain areas of the press would still give them five stars. To be honest, it’s everything I don’t like about music – over-earnest, dull, meandering and takes itself so seriously it appears to think its very conception alone marks a critical juncture in human evolution.

They should have a coke and a smile and cheer the fuck up.

Oh, and the earlies were a superb band, much missed.
