Songs You Really Shouldn’t Mock But…. #1 – Tears In Heaven

You, I’m sure, recall the tragic circumstances which led to this songs creation. Eric Clapton’s infant son fell through a window in an apartment block to his death. Clapton spoke, very movingly, of his son and mentioned how this song had helped him through what must have been an incredibly difficult period of his life.

But, Lordy, it’s bloody awful. A simple acoustic guitar riff is immediately drowned by a cloying post-80′s production, while simpering strings come in and irritate. Clapton’s voice, never a thing of beauty, spouts some truly heartfelt yet incredibly awful lyrics in a key which only dogs will enjoy and the dirge just goes on and on until you just want to retch. So, sorry about the kid and that Eric, but yet again ‘music-as-therapy’ turns out to be much more for the artist than the victims, sorry, listeners.

  1. “….goodbye englands rose…..”

    No,that should be mocked .

  2. Oh, and I also hate ” Layla” due to that cunt clapton( to give him his proper post-punk title) conveniently taking the credit for Duane Allmans now legendary guitar riff.
